Instructions

1. With the children, paint or decorate a pillowcase, canvas bag, or small duffle
bag to make a class "Me Bag."
2. Write the following instructions on the bag:
* This is our class "Me Bag."
* When it comes home, fill it with _____ items (choose a number)
* Bring the bag back to class the next day.
3. Give the "Me Bag" to a child to bring home. (Make sure every child has a
turn.) The child (with the parent's help) will choose items, put them in the
bag, and bring it to class the next day.
4. When the child brings in the bag, tuck it away so the other children are not
tempted to peek into it.
5. At Circle Time, encourage the child to show and talk about her items with the
rest of the children. Pack the child's items into her backpack or a grocery bag
for her to take back home at the end of the day.
More to do
To extend this activity, model how to give clues. Put an item into the "Me Bag"
and provide clues before showing it to the children. Encourage them to try and
guess what the article is. Eventually the children will be able to do this by themselves.
