Materials

flashlights2 sets of number cards from 1 to 10box or bag

Instructions

1. Choose two children or two groups of children to operate the signal stations in opposite places in the room.

2. Give each group a flashlight and a set of number cards in a box or bag.

3. Turn off the lights and ask one group to draw a card from the bag. They will then signal the other group by flashing the flashlight the correct number of flashes to correspond to the numeral on the card. Remind them to flashslowly so the other group has a chance to count accurately.

4. The children at the other signal station are to count the number of flashes and find the matching number card. If desired, they can either flash back the same number so the first signalers will know the message was sent correctly, or draw a new number and flash out that number.
