Instructions

1. The one thing children
always have with them is
their fingers. Start a
Fingerplay Library so at
any transition time you will always have a number of fingerplays right at
your fingertips!
2. Print a fingerplay on each note or index card.
3. File the cards in the box.
4. Refer to the box whenever you need a quick fingerplay during those busy
transition times.
5. Following are some examples.
Two Little Blackbirds
Two little blackbirds (hold up both thumbs, fingers folded)
Sitting on a hill
One named Jack, (raise one thumb)
And one named Jill. (raise the other thumb)
Fly away, Jack. (open fingers and, making a fluttering motion, move one hand
behind your back)
Fly away, Jill. (open fingers and, making a fluttering motion, move the other
hand behind your back)
Come back, Jack. (open fingers and, making a fluttering motion,
move one hand back to the front)
Come back, Jill. (open fingers and, making a fluttering motion,
move the other hand back to the front)

Where Is Thumbkin?
Where is Thumbkin? (hide both hands behind your back)
Where is Thumbkin?
Here I am. (move one hand to the front with thumb raised and fingers folded)
Here I am. (move other hand to the front with thumb raised and
fingers folded)
How are you today, sir? (wiggle one thumb at the other)
Very well, I thank you. (wiggle other thumb at the first)
Run away. (hide one hand behind your back)
Run away. (hide the other hand behind your back)
Continue as above substituting the remaining fingers:
Pointer (index finger)
Middle Man (middle finger)
Ring Man (ring Finger)
Pinky (pinky finger)
After singing a verse about each finger, sing this last verse:
Where is everybody? (hide both hands behind your back)
Where is everybody?
Here we are! (move one hand to the front with fingers in the typical "five" hand)
Here we are! (move other hand to the front with fingers in the
typical "five" hand)
How are you today, sirs? (wiggle all fingers on one hand at the fingers
on the other hand)
Very well, we thank you! (wiggle all fingers on the other hand at the
fingers on the first hand)
Run away. (hide one hand behind your back)
Run away. (hide the other hand behind your back)
Five Little Monkeys
Five little monkeys jumping on the bed (bounce five-hand on outstretched palm)
One fell off and bumped his head. (hold up one finger, then touch
finger to forehead)
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said, (dial pretend phone or hold
pretend phone up to ear)
"No more monkeys jumping on the bed!" (waggle one finger in the air)
Four little monkeys...
Three little monkeys...
Two little monkeys...
On the last verse, the last line should be, "Put those monkeys back to bed!"
