Instructions
1. Cut a notch on each side of a piece of black construction paper, approximately
1/2 " (1 cm) from the bottom.
2. Punch a hole on each side of the paper, approximately 1/2 " (1 cm) from the
top.
3. Put paper reinforcements around each hole.
4. Cut out a 3" (7 cm) circle from yellow construction paper. Glue it in the middle
of the black "Lantern."
5. Put the ends of a pipe cleaner through the reinforced holes to form a handle.
Secure the pipe cleaner ends by twisting them around the pipe cleaner.
6. Teach the children "Train Talk." Moving the lantern up and down means
"Go," and moving it side to side means "Stop."
7. Similar to "Simon Says," the leader (engineer) tells the group to do a certain
action. The group can only do the action if the engineer signals "Go" with the
lantern. The group must stop when the engineer signals "Stop." However, if
anyone misses a signal, she is not "out." This game is just for fun.
