Paper

Copy machine

Glue

Paper plates

Crayons

Markers

Hole punch

Scissors

Yarn, cut in approximately 1' (30 cm) lengths

Instructions

1. Ahead of time, reproduce pictures of the alphabet in sign language on individual sheets ofpaper. Copy a sufficient number of your children's first initials.

2. Help each child find her first initial in the sign language alphabet.

3. Have the children paste their initial in sign on a paper plate and color it.

4. Next to or under the picture, write the words "…is for (child's name)", forming a rebus.

5. Punch two holes in the top of the plate and attach a length of yarn.

6. Hang the children's plates around the room or near their cubbies.
