Instructions

l On each boat, place a shape label. For example, put a triangle label on the
boat with the word and picture of a shape. Use clear plastic tape or contact
paper to place the label on the boat.
l Gather all the plastic boats, one per shape.
l Gather an assortment of small objects for children to sort onto shape boats.
What to Do
1. Display the shapes for the children.
2. Engage the children in a discussion about the shapes' names.
3. Use a couple of the small objects and model for the children how to sort them
on the ships. Put each object on the ship that matches the shape of the object.
For example, place a small rubber ball on the ship with the circle label.
4. After modeling this for the children, challenge them to put the objects on the
ships.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children sort the objects onto the proper ships?
l Can the children identify the shapes by name?
