Instructions

Provide books and props, such as The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss and a stuffed
version of the cat in the hat, for children to read and play with when they have
a few moments before story time, when they need to calm down, or other
times during the day.
More to do Home-to-School Connection: Each week, select a different child to take a
book bag home for the weekend. (Each book bag contains a book, one or two
props related to the book, and a journal.) Encourage the children to include the
stuffed character in as many activities as they can. Ask parents to read the book
to their child, and write about the family's weekend adventures in the provided
journal. Be sure to read the journal out loud to the class each Monday. You can
have more than one book bag circulating through the class. Use different
books and characters, such as If You Give a Pig a Pancake by Laura Joffe
Numeroff, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin, Jr., or any of
the Clifford books. Use any book that you can pair with a stuffed animal.
