child-safe scissors (optional)

Instructions

l Create a packet for each child with several shapes drawn on paper. If
appropriate, cut out pictures for the children.
What to Do
1. Show the children each shape in the packet and
help them identify each one. Explain that shapes
are found everywhere. Hold up a few items and
help the children match the object with its shape
2. Explain to the children that they will also be
matching objects to their shapes. Encourage the
children to look through magazines to locate and
cut out shape pictures (or they can sort through
the pictures you have cut out).
3. After they find enough pictures, have the children
sort through and pair and glue each picture with
its matching shape in the packet.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
l Some shapes will obviously be trickier to find. Let
the children know that they can circle something
within a picture.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Is the child finding images of objects that match the shape outline she has?
l How well is the child describing the matching object she found?
