Instructions

1. Read the following poem to the children. Hold up the different objects as they are mentioned.See that box sitting over there? (point to square box)Its equal sides make it a square.Here is a box that held a shoe. (hold up shoebox)A box can be a rectangle too.Here's an orange so round and fat, (hold up an orange)A circle is a shape like that.Take the letter V, add a line, (hold up the letter V, and draw a line)That new triangle looks just fine.Shapes are everywhere, it is true;Just look and they'll appear to you.

2. Hold up the objects again and have the children call out the shape.

3. Invite the children to "draw" the shapes in the air.

4. Ask the children to look for these shapes in classroom objects and pictures.
