Instructions

1. Fill a bowl with snack crackers in different shapes, such as circles, triangles,
and squares.
2. Point to a cracker and say, for example, "Look, this cracker is round."
3. Choose another cracker and say, "This one has three sides." Encourage the
children to count the sides of the triangle cracker with you.
4. Point to the square cracker and say, "Let's count the sides on this one."
Encourage the children to count the sides with you.
5. Place a circular cracker on the table and ask the children to find other
crackers that have the same shape. Repeat with the other shapes.
6. Have the children help you make a simple snack sandwich. Use soy nut
butter (available at all health food stores and in some grocery stores) to
avoid a potential problem with allergies.
7. Give each child a piece of bread precut into a shape. Let the children spread
soy nut butter on their bread.
8. Put the other slices of bread on the table and ask the children to find a
matching piece to complete their sandwich.
9. Serve cold apple juice and enjoy your math snacks (sandwiches and
crackers).
10. As the children eat, ask them to search for and point out different shapes on
their clothing or in the room.
