40 6" paper shapes, 10 of each shape (circles, squares,
triangles, rectangles) 4 6' lengths of yarn maracaInstructions
l Draw a face on one of each shape to represent each snake's head.
l Hide or display the remaining paper shapes at the children's level around the
room.
What to Do
1. Place the four snakehead shapes on the floor. Display the maraca on a table.
2. Place a length of string behind each snakehead, extending outward.
3. Divide the children into four groups and have each group sit near a
snakehead.
4. On the command of "Ready, set, find your snake," invite the groups to search
around the classroom to find the matching shape pieces to create their snake's
bodies. Each group will find nine shapes.
5. As each child finds a shape, he brings it back to the snake and places it along
the length of yarn, creating the shape snake.
6. When a snake has all 10 shapes, one child in the group shakes the maraca,
signaling that his group's snake is complete.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
l Invite the children to find an assortment of different shapes to create their
snake. Have children identify the various shapes as they put the snake
together.
