white or wheat sandwich bread
sandwich fixings such as meats, cheeses, peanut butter, jelly, butter, honey, and so on shape cookie cutters paper plates re-sealable sandwich bagsInstructions
1. Have each child create a sandwich of his choice and put it on a paper plate.
Safety Note: Do not serve peanut butter or honey if any of the children
have food allergies.
2. Provide shape cookie cutters and invite the children to choose one, place it in
the center of their sandwich, and cut out the shape.
3. Ask the children to put the leftover crust outline on another plate.
4. Invite the children to sit with a partner that has a different shape than their
own. They can trade their "crust shape outlines" with each other.
5. Invite pairs of children to look around the room for objects that match the
shape of their sandwich and the shape of their "crust shape outline."
6. After each child names one or more objects that match the shape of their
sandwiches, invite them to munch away until their shapes disappear.
