Plain cardboard Colored poster board

Scissors Markers

Hole punch Yarn

Instructions

1. In advance, prepare cardboard stencils of basic shapes such as a square, triangle, circle,diamond, oval and rectangle. These should be about 1 1/2 inches (3.

5 cm) long.

2. Demonstrate how to place the stencil over a piece ofposter board and trace the shape.

3. Help the children to trace a variety of shapes, cut themout, punch a hole in each and string them on a piece of yarn for anecklace.

4. Talk about the different shapes and encourage children to name familiar objects they resemble.

5. When the children have completed their necklaces, help them label each shape.
