Materials

Poster board

Pencil

Construction paper in various colors

Scissors

Hole punch

Markers and/or crayons

Newspaper

Tape

Twist-ties, optional

String or yarn, cut in 12" to 18" (30 cm to 45 cm) lengths

Instructions

1. Ahead of time, trace shape patterns cut from poster board onto construction paper. Thereshould be a circle, square, rectangle, and triangle for each child.

2. Help the children cut out the shapes and punch a hole at the top of each one. Invite the childrento decorate their shapes with crayons and markers.

3. Ask the children to help you roll sheets of newspaper into narrow cylinders. Secure the paperwith tape. Roll one cylinder for each mobile. Alternatively, form a cross bar with two cylindersand secure the intersection with string or a twist-tie.

4. Help the children tie a piece of string to each shape, then attach the other end of the string tothe cylinder. Form a loop with string and attach it to the mobile for hanging.
