l Construct an eight-column bar graph.
l Label each heading for one of the two-dimensional and three-dimensional
shapes one for another. Leave squares for the 3" x 5" papers.
l Hang the empty graph in meeting area.
l Gather the precut shapes and replicas of the three-dimensional shapes.
What to Do
1. Announce to the children that they are going on a shape hunt in their room.
2. Review the shapes they are to look for.
3. Explain that after hunting, the children will draw some of the shapes they
discovered.
4. Hand out precut shapes to the children who want to remember what to look
for. Allow the children to look for shapes.
5. Come back to meeting place.
6. Collect the precut shapes from the children.
7. Pass out two 3" x 5" papers and pencils to the children. Have them draw the
shapes they found during the hunt.
8. Make a graph of the children's findings, using their 3" x 5" papers to fill
the graph.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children compare attributes of real life objects?
l Can the children help construct a graph?
l Can the children follow directions?
