bean bags

shape cards

Instructions

l Prepare Hop-Along Cards on 8 1/2 " x 11" construction paper. Attach
construction paper cutouts of shapes to the cards. Laminate for durability.
What to Do
1. Spread the Hop-Along Cards in a
circle on the floor, in order of the
number of sides they have.
2. Introduce the shapes to the children.
3. Ask the children to take turns tossing
the beanbag onto one of the cards
on the floor, and then identifying the
shape on the card. Help the children
by describing the shape, the number
of sides it has, and so on.
4. Invite the child to hop to that card,
counting the number of shapes he hops along to get to the beanbag.
5. Invite the children to take turns repeating the process.

l This is a great activity to do indoors during on a rainy day.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the child recognize shapes by sight and name them?
l Can the child count the number of shapes he hops along while retrieving the
beanbag?
