Instructions

1. Cut out large shapes from 12" x 18" construction paper (squares, triangles, circles, and rectangles), one shape per piece of paper. Make enough so that you have at least one of each shape per three children.

2. Place the paper shapes on the floor.

3. Explain that when you call out the name of a shape, children walk, hop, or wiggle to the shape. No running! Tell them that more than one child may stand on a shape.

4. Call out a movement and a shape, such as "walk to a square," "hop to a circle," or "wiggle to a rectangle.

5. Check that all the children are standing on the correct shape before calling out the next direction.

6. Allow the children to take turns calling the shapes.

7. To make this game more challenging, cut out shapes in different colors and play the game with two variables color and shape. For example, "Walk to a green triangle," "Hop to a red square," and so on. Use no more than three colors and three shapes the first time you try this variation.
