Materials

Any large, uncolored drawing suitable for five-year-olds (no larger than 7" x 10") cardstock paper

glue

hole punch

crayons or markers

shoelace or length of yarn with each end knotted to prevent fraying

Instructions

1. Glue cardstock to the back of the picture or photocopy the drawing onto
cardstock paper.
2. Cut out the picture, leaving a 1" border around the edges.
3. Punch holes in the border area, approximately 1" apart, around the entire
picture.
4. Write sequential numbers or letters of the alphabet, one next to each hole.
5. Give one to each child. Encourage them to color their pictures.
6. Encourage the children to use shoelaces or yarn to "sew" around their cards
in numerical or alphabetical order.
