Instructions
1. It is not necessary to start each day with the full, undivided attention of the
children. Because children often arrive at different times, it is difficult to have
circle time early in the day.
2. Try starting the day with organized free play. Contrary to what some may
think, this does not necessarily result in chaos.
3. Put out different activities at each table, such as playdough at one table, a
teacher-led game at another, and art materials at another. These activities
may vary from day to day.
4. Also have the painting easel and sand and water table available.
5. This helps reduce the stress of wanting everyone present for a morning
greeting at the very beginning of the day. This also will free you to greet
parents and children individually as they arrive. While another teacher
watches the children, you can take a minute to talk to parents.
6. If you feel that the children who arrive last are missing out on this
opportunity to play, try extending play time.
