Materials

Gloves

Small plastic cups

Cooking oil

Food coloring

Multicolored glitter

Water16-ounce (500 m

L) plastic soda bottle and cap, label removed

Plastic spoons

Instructions

1. Wearing gloves, pour cooking oil into small plastic cups.

2. Invite the children to add a few drops of food coloring and to each cup. Have them sprinklesome glitter in each cup.

3. Pour water into the bottle until it is roughly one-half to two-thirds full.

4. Add a few spoonfuls of oil from each cup to the bottle. Close the cap securely.

5. Ask the children to observe the shapes that form in the water.
