Materials

Large circle cut from poster board, divided into 6 wedges3 glass jars (baby food jars work well)Red, yellow and blue acrylic paint

Small circles cut from manila paper, divided into 6 wedges, one per child

Crayons or markers

Instructions

1. Tack the large color wheel to the bulletin board.

2. The teacher, using primary colors, paints three of the segments red, blue and yellow.

3. Using the glass jars, the teacher demonstrates mixing the primary colors to create three new colors: green, orange and purple.

4. After a class discussion, the "new" colors may be added to the appropriate places on the color wheel.

5. Give the children small color wheels which they may try coloring with crayons or markers to match those on the large color wheel.
