Instructions

11. Ask children to bring in photographs of themselves. Or, use a Polaroid camera
and take pictures of them during school activities.
12. Cover a table with newspaper. Help the children put on smocks.
13. Cut a piece of cardboard into 6" x 8" (15 cm x 20 cm) rectangles.
14. Give each child a cardboard rectangle and ask him to glue his photograph in
the center. If necessary, trim the picture to fit.
15. Put small shells on the table so the children can select which ones they want
to use. (If necessary, limit the amount of shells to eight to ten per child).
16. Help one child pour 1/2 cup (125 g) sand into a bowl.
17. Ask another child to stir the sand as you pour glue into it. (The mixture
should be moist enough so that it falls off the spoon but is not runny.)
18. With the children, spoon the sand mixture onto the cardboard rectangles,
framing their pictures.
19. Encourage them to press their shells into the sand mixture on their frames.
10. Allow the frames to dry for at least three days.
11. Use a hot glue gun to attach a paper clip on the back of the frame for the
hook (adult only).
12. Help the children write their names, the year, and name of their school on
the back.
More to do
Games: Play "Hide the Shells." Ask the children to hide their eyes while you
hide the shells. Then the children go find them. (Remember to set some ground
rules before starting the game.)
Math: Count the leftover shells or sort them by shape, color, or size.
