Instructions
1. Ask the children what they like to drink when they are thirsty. Tell them some
of the beverages you like to drink.
2. Explain to the children that they are going to use their imaginations. Ask each
child to think of a favorite book character and invent a drink that the character
would enjoy. Some examples might be carrot juice for Peter Rabbit, a cup
of milk for the Three Little Kittens, and a vanilla milkshake with honey for
Pooh Bear.
3. Cut white paper into strips that fit inside the cups to simulate beverages.
4. Give each child a cup and paper insert.
5. Encourage the children to color their insert the appropriate color: orange for
carrot juice, yellow for apple juice, and so on.
6. Then, ask each child to dictate a sentence about the beverage as you write it
on the insert. For example, "Pooh Bear would like a vanilla milkshake with
honey," or "Peter Rabbit would love sweet carrot juice!"
7. Write the child's name on the bottom of the cup using a black marker.
8. Display the character cups next to the books with the same characters.
