Materials
Blue or white plates, preferably Styrofoam
A variety of construction paper fish, whales, dolphins, and other sea creatures Glue 2 or 3 shades of green crepe paper or yarn Tiny seashells Clear or blue plastic wrap or cellophane TapeInstructions
What to do
1. Have the children glue the paper sea creatures
on to their plate, then add yarn or
crepe paper seaweed.
2. Let the glue dry completely.
3. Ask the children to select four or five tiny
seashells for their ocean scene and set them
on the plate. Do not glue the shells onto the
plate.
4. Seal the plate with plastic wrap. Use clear
wrap if the plates are blue or blue wrap if
the plates are white. Pull the wrap tightly to remove wrinkles and secure with tape on the back
of the plate.
More to do
Language: Ask the children to dictate or write a few sentences about the seashore; have them
decorate paper cut in the shape of a shell, bucket, seahorse, or the like, then tape their words on
the reverse side.
Math: Bring in shells and other objects from the seashore, then make a picture graph of the collection.
Movement: Sit in a circle and toss a large beach ball to each other. Call out a name or word related
to the ocean with each toss.
Snack: Serve blue gelatin, with gummy candy sharks and whipped cream.
