Instructions

l Place the honey in clear plastic containers and close lids tightly.
l Arrange a few drops of each type of honey on a paper plate, keeping them far
enough apart so that the small color pools do not mix.
Safety Note: Check for any food allergies before doing this activity.
What to Do
1. Read The Honey Makers and then
show the children the containers of
honey.
2. Point out and explore the color
gradations, perhaps using paper and
pastels to illustrate the range of
colors.
3. Allow the children to smell, touch,
and taste the honey samples on
paper plates.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
l Dilute a honey sample to 20% honey and 80% water. This is the strength of
the nectar that bees extract from flowers, and which they then process into
honey in the hive.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Do the children display an understanding of where honey comes from?
l Can the children describe the color and flavor of honey?
