Permanent markers
Instructions
1. Pre-cut pieces of string, approximately 1' (30 cm) in length, one for each child.
2. Use a knife or sharp scissors to pre-score a slit near the top edge of each
plastic juice can.
3. Place beads, cans, and yarn on a table and encourage the children to choose
one of each.
4. Challenge them to string their bead on their yarn.
5. Tie the bead onto one end of the yarn and push the other end of the string
through the juice can slit.
6. Make a knot on the end of the string that is in the juice can. The bead should
be out of the juice can, and the plain knot should be in the juice can.
7. Encourage the children to hold their juice cans, toss the bead up, and attempt
to catch the bead in their cans.
8. Shorten or lengthen the string for varying difficulty levels.
9. If desired, encourage the children to decorate their juice cans with scraps of
wallpaper or tissue paper.
More to do
Compare beads with different textures or sizes and determine which are easiest
to catch.
