Materials

white oak tag

crayons

scissors

yarn

small cup

clean sand

sturdy, shallow box

crayons

watercolor paint and paintbrush

white glue

Instructions

1. Draw a shovel and bucket on white oak tag and cut out. Make one for
each child.
2. Cut a 10" length of yarn for each child.
3. Put sand in a small cup with a pouring spout. Have a shallow box nearby.
4. Encourage the children to draw decorations on their paper shovels and
buckets with crayons.
5. Invite the children to paint their sand buckets and shovels with pastels
and watercolors, going down the bucket in a rainbow fashion.
6. Ask them to cover the center of their sand bucket with white glue.
7. Help the children pour clean sand over the glue on their sand buckets
(hold over the sturdy box).
8. Help each child tie the handle of her shovel to the handle of her sand
bucket with yarn.
