Instructions

* June is National Safety Month.
1. Cut out a large red stop sign shape.
2. At the end of a unit on safety, invite the children to help make a list of
rules to remember when they go out to play to stay safe. Write the rules
on the stop sign shape.
3. Some rules could include:
* Cross the street with a grown-up.
* Do not talk to strangers.
* Stay away from fire and matches.
* Wear a helmet when riding a bike.
4. Draw a red heart on each rock. Tell the children that the heart represents
the people who love them and want them to stay safe. The red means to
stop and think before they do something, to make sure it is safe.
5. Put each rock in a zipper-closure bag for children to take home.
6. Put the following note inside each bag:
Put the rock inside your pocket
When you go to play.
The heart says to remember the rules
And stay safe every day.
