Instructions

l Collect at least twice as many objects as the number of children in the class.
What to Do
1. Put a selection of colored objects into the center of the circle.
2. Teach the children the following rhyme:
My Friends by Anne Adeney
I have a friend,
And ________ is her name.
I will give her something (color name)
In the circle color game.
3. Ask a child to pick another child, choose a color, and chant the rhyme. The
child should go into the center, choose an object of the correct color, and give
it to her friend to hold. As the child is doing so, all the children should chant
the rhyme, for example: "Dylan has a friend, and Carly is her name. He will
give her something blue in the circle color game."
4. The child who has been given the object sings the rhyme next.
5. Continue until each child has both given and received an object.

l Ask the last child chosen to start the game the next time.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Review color names with the children. Are they able to identify and
differentiate between the various colors?
