Materials

Glasses pattern Pencils

Scissors Tagboard or card stock

Tape Sequins, glitter, glue and markers, optional

Rolls of colored cellophane (available at art supply stores)

Instructions

1. Trace the glasses pattern onto pieces of tagboard.

2. Cut the pattern out, including the "lens" areas. Steps 1 and 2 should be done by an adult for very young children.

3. Cut out two pieces of colored cellophane to fit over the lenses of each pair of glasses.

4. Tape the cellophane to the inside of each lens.

5. Let the children decorate the outside of their spectacles with glitter, sequins or markers.

6. Encourage them to explore their environment using their colored spectacles.

7. Ask them to trade their glasses for some of another color and see what everything looks like.More to doMore science: Instead of glasses, make hand-held magnifying glasses. Put the colored glasses at a center and let the children explore looking through them. Show the children how to overlay two colors together to make a new color.
