Instructions

1. Put the quilts and pillows on the floor (for safety) to make a "bed" big enough for 10 children.

2. Choose 10 children to lie down on the bed, with the smallest child on the left.

3. Explain to the children that everyone must roll over once when they hear "all rolled over" and when they hear "one fell out" the child nearest to you standing at the right side of the bed must roll right off the quilt and get up.

4. Sing the first verse of "There Were Ten in the Bed."There were ten in a bed and the little one said, "Roll over, roll over."So they all rolled over (everyone rolls once) and one fell out. (child on right end rolls off the blanket)5. Continue singing, counting down to one in the bed. End with the following lyric:There was one in the bed and the little one said, "Goodnight."6. For very young children, count the number of children left each time before singing the next verse.
