Instructions
1. Allowing children to be as independent as possible during breakfast time
can make transition times easier for all. Follow this routine to help the
children take control and take care of themselves.
2. Wipe the tables beforehand with a solution of bleach and water. Arrange the
needed plates, cups, and utensils in a buffet style on a side table.
3. Let them get their own plates, cups, and utensils and choose a place to sit at
the table. Place the food on the table in small bowls with serving spoons.
4. Let the children serve themselves from the small bowls and pour their own
juice or milk from a child-sized pitcher.
5. When done eating, the children should clean up their own places and scrape
their plates into a garbage can or designated container.
6. If the routine is well established and organized, then the transition times
before and after meals will be very smooth.
7. Follow the same routine at snack time. Modify the routine to meet your
program's individual needs.
