Instructions

1. Read The Reasons for Seasons by Gail Gibbons and discuss the
four seasons with the children.
2. Ask the children to choose their favorite season. Show the
children how to pick the cutouts that match the season they
chose: summer = sun; winter = snowflake; fall =
leaves; spring = flowers.
3. Give the children markers to decorate the cutouts and
the headbands, and demonstrate how to glue the cutout
on the center of the headbands.
4. Teacher-only step: Staple the headbands so they fit the
children comfortably.
5. Teach the children the following song:
Seasons Marching by Susan Oldham Hill
(Tune: "Camptown Races")
Seasons marching all around:
Summer, winter!
Seasons marching up and down:
Spring and fall, hooray!
Summertime is hot;
Spring flowers all around.
Winter snowflakes in the air,
And fall sees leaves come down.
6. Invite the children to march around, wearing their
headbands and singing the song. Add rhythm instruments for extra fun.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children name the seasons of the year?
l Are the children able to make colorful headbands?
l Can the children learn the words to "Seasons Marching"?
