Instructions

1. Copy road sign shapes on card stock and cut out. Include yield (triangle), stop (octagon), school crossing (pentagon), pedestrians or curve (diamond or rhombus), permit/handicapped parking (square), railroad or do not enter (circle).

2. Attach each sign to a craft stick using glue.

3. Put the other end of the stick into a ball of clay, which will serve as a base (so it stands up).

4. Before placing the signs in the block area, discuss the different shapes.

5. Add cars or other vehicles to the block area. More to do Group Time: Show the signs to the children and ask them to identify the shapes.Language and Literacy: Use the signs as an example and have the children create books by drawing pictures of each sign. Help the children write the shape names on their pictures. Ask them if they can tell by looking at each sign what it is used for.
