Instructions

1. Attach two or more strips of the two-sided tape to each plate.
2. Give each child a sticky plate and take them outdoors for a nature walk.
3. Invite the children to collect a variety of interesting objects on the walk. The
children may collect seeds, leaves, pebbles, blades of grass, and so on.
4. Have the children "stick" each item to their plate.
5. After the children have collected an assortment of items, invite them to sit in a
circle and tell the group about what they collected.
6. Encourage the children to
identify the shape of each
item, how many items they
have, and how certain items
could be grouped together.
7. Back in the classroom, let
the children record what
they found by drawing each
item on another paper plate.
Help them write words for
each of the objects or shapes.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Can the children describe the differences between various items taken from
nature?
* Can the children recall where they discovered the various natural materials?
