1. Recite the following rhyme and do the actions with the children:
Taking Care of My Little Tree by Ingelore Mix
In my garden stands a little tree (rest elbow on tabletop with fingers straight up
not spread apart)
Tweedledum and Tweedledee,
I take good care of my little tree.
Tweedledum and Tweedledee,
I pull out weeds around the tree. (use other hand to pretend to pull weeds)
Tweedledum and Tweedledee,
I always water my little tree. (use other hand to pretend to water by wiggling fingers)
Tweedledum and Tweedledee,
It grows and grows my little tree. (stretch arm up and spread fingers apart)
Tweedledum and Tweedledee,
Now birds and squirrels nest in my tree. (cup both hands like a nest)
Tweedledum and Tweedledee,
I'm glad I took care of my tree.
Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
2. Talk with the children about different trees and their leaves. Ask the children if
they can name other things people get from trees, such as wood, fruits, shade,
and so on.
3. Find items in the classroom that are made from wood. Follow up with a walk
outside.
Assessment
Consider the following:
