Materials

Assorted, recycled scraps such as small plastic bottles, plastic caps, bottle caps, toilet paper rolls,

meat trays, yarn, string, aluminum cans, and anything else handy.

Glue or masking tape

Cardboard, cut into 12" x 12" (30 cm x 30 cm) squares, one per child

Spray paint (metallic, silver, gold, bronze, copper, aluminum, or black), adult only

Instructions

What to do
1. Help the children write their names on the back of their cardboard squares.
2. Encourage the children to select recycled materials for their sculpture.
3. Show the children how to use glue to secure pieces to the cardboard, creating a 3-D sculpture.
4. Allow the sculptures to dry overnight (if using glue).
5. Take the sculptures outside. Then, with the child observing, an adult should spray paint the
entire sculpture and allow to dry. Mixing colors gives a great effect, too.
