hats and long scarves in every color of the rainbow

Instructions

1. Draw a giant rainbow on a large sheet of paper.
2. Mix together all the hats and scarves on the floor.
3. Choose seven children for this activity. Each child grabs a hat and puts it
on, then finds the matching scarf.
4. The children sit behind each other in a line on the floor in order to make
a rainbow. (They may need help with this.)
5. Have the children put the scarves around their necks and hold one end
in each hand to make long swaths of color, stretching their arms out to
make the shape of the rainbow arch.
6. Then each child names his color, one after the other, starting with red.
After violet they all say, "The colors of the rainbow."
More to do Art: Let children color or paint their own rainbows.
Books: Read some folk tales about gold at the end of the rainbow.
Science: Talk about how, when, and why rainbows occur.
