Instructions

1. With the children, sing the following song. Choose one child to be the
neighbor helping in each verse, and invite that child to make up motions that
indicate the helping action. At the end, have all the neighbors hold hands and
sing together.
The Neighbor Next Door by Susan Oldham Hill
(Tune: "Do You Know the Muffin Man?")
none
Susan Oldham Hill, Lakeland, FL
Oh, have you seen the man next door?
Mr. Fitch, the man next door.
Oh, have you seen the man next door?
He helps me mow the lawn.
There's a girl across the street.
Susannah lives across the street.
Oh, there's a girl across the street:
She helps me walk my dog.
A lady lives in the big, brown house.
Mrs. Alexander in the big, brown
house.
She lives in her big, brown house,
She always says, "Hello."
A boy lives across our backyard fence.
Antwon lives across our fence.
He lives across our backyard fence;
He taught me how to skate.
A nice man lives just two doors down.
Mr. Lopez lives just two doors down
A nice man lives just two doors down
He helped Dad change our tire.
A lady lives way down the road.
Mrs. Yokohama lives way down
the road.
A lady lives way down the road;
She brings us apple pie.
The people in my neighborhood.
My neighborhood, my neighborhood,
The people in my neighborhood
Are all good friends of mine!
