Materials

4 to 6 large paper boxes

colored paper

black paper wheel shapes

glue

permanent marker (adult only)

Instructions

Attach a sheet of colored paper to each side of each box.
l Attach four black paper wheels to each box.
l Draw the same shape on each side of each box.
What to Do
1. Display the shape cars in the classroom.
2. Encourage the children to name the shape
on each car.
3. Demonstrate how to push the cars around
the room.
4. Invite the children to
push the cars around
the room. Encourage
the children to seek
various objects
according to the
shape on their car.
5. After the children spot several objects, each child may return his car and select
another car to push.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Invite the children to line up all six cars in a row. Instruct the class to walk
along the row of cars and name the shape as they pass by each one. Can the
children identify the shapes?
l Invite the children to set a stuffed animal inside their car. When the car
returns, invite each "animal" to talk about the shapes it saw while on the ride.
