Materials

Fingerpaints in a variety of colors

Large, smooth art or mess trays

12" x 18" (30 cm x 45 cm) construction paper

Instructions

1. Ask each child to bring a clean glove from home. (Cotton gardening gloves
work well.)
2. Supply each child with pompoms (one for each finger of the glove), yarn,
moveable eyes, and other materials.
3. Encourage the children to create pompom "people" by using glue to attach
materials to the pompom, such as yarn (for hair) and tiny moveable eyes. Add
other materials, if desired.
4. Put Velcro stick-on squares on the backs of the pompom characters and on
the fingers of the gloves. This will allow the children to change the characters
from season to season.
5. Create characters to go with any fingerplay you desire. For example, glue
green felt leaves and a black felt jack-o-lantern to orange pompoms for the
fingerplay "Five Little Jack-O-Lanterns."
