Materials

Piece of foam, about 1" (2 cm) thick

Golf tees or short large-headed nails

Small hammers or mallets

Instructions

1. Hide small objects in the sand.

2. Ask the children to take turns digging in the sand.

3. Ask them if they can find a circle, and encourage them to hunt for it. Tell the children to feel around in the sand, and pull out the item that feels like a circle. (You can also use plastic numbers or ABC's.)4. Children can play by themselves or with a friend.More to do:After the children take turns finding their shapes, encourage them to go around the room and find more shapes like the one they found.Art: Ask the children to take their objects to the Art Station and trace around them, or make a rubbing.
