10 rainbow patterns

marker

sand and water table

gold-colored tokens

10 small black pots or bowls

index cards

Instructions

1. In advance, write a numeral on each rainbow pattern (1 to 5 or 1 to 10). Attach a
rainbow inside each black pot or bowl.
2. Fill the empty sand and water table with gold tokens.
3. The children count out tokens and place them in a pot according to the
numeral on the rainbow. For example, if the rainbow has a 4 on it, the child
puts four tokens in the pot.
4. Draw tokens on index cards (1 to 5 or 1 to 10). Attach the cards to the outside of
the pots as a way for children to check their counting. For example, if the
rainbow has a 5 written on it, draw five tokens on the card for that pot.
