Instructions

* Cut paper into 1" by 4" strips.
* Make the circle into a head/face for the caterpillar.
What to Do
1. Show the children a picture of a caterpillar. Talk to the children about the
caterpillar, and ask them to describe how it looks.
2. Explain that you want to make a caterpillar and need the children's help.
3. Each time someone does something kind or helpful for a friend or shares or
listens nicely, and so on, that child earns one chain to be put on the caterpillar.
4. Tell the children that you will write down what they did on the strip of paper
and attach it to the paper chain to "grow" your caterpillar.
5. Have the children brainstorm actions that might earn them a chain on the
caterpillar.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Encourage the children to notice good deeds that others do in the
classroom; keep a pen and paper strips nearby so you can write down the
good deeds as they occur.
S o n G
* Sing a variation of "If You're Happy and You Know It" with the children,
replacing "happy," with words like "share," take turns," and so on.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Do the children understand the benefit of doing good deeds and helping one
another?
* Can the children think of good deeds that might belong on the good deed
caterpillar?
