Materials

A tarnished silver teaspoon

Small sponge

Small piece of soft cloth

Toothpaste

Other silver items, optional

Instructions

1. Glue a white paper towel to a piece of colored construction paper so that the
towel is "framed" by the construction paper. Make one for each child.
2. Read Mouse Paint to the children. Discuss how the mice mix colors to make
completely different colors.
3. Give each child a construction paper/paper towel frame.
4. Put out three containers of water. Place several drops of red food coloring
into the first container, several drops of yellow into the second container, and
several drops of blue into the third container. Put paintbrushes into each cup.
5. Encourage the children to "paint" on the paper towel with the colored water
and observe how the colors blend into each other, making the same colors
that the mice in the story made.
