Blue and red (or magenta) tempera paint
Paper plates Plastic spoons Paper cupsInstructions
What to do
1. Read the nursery rhyme "Little Jack Horner" to the children.
2. Give each child two paper cups with a little blue tempera in one and red in the other.
3. Allow children to mix their own purple paint to make plum pies.
4. Then they can "stick their thumb and pull out a plum" and make thumbprint plumbs on their
paper plates.
More to do
More art: Write the nursery rhyme on a folded little booklet to put their thumbprints on and take
home.
Little Jack Horner sat in a corner,
Eating his Christmas pie.
He put in his thumb
And pulled out a plum.
And said, "What a good boy am I!"
Snack: Make a real pie with the children, or taste plums.
