Materials
chalkboard or chart paper
chalk or marker blue paper white, orange, black, and brown paint playdoughInstructions
1. Discuss the concepts of small, medium, and large with the children. Show
examples, if possible, such as a small ball or block, a medium ball or
block, and a large ball or block.
2. Draw an example of a snowman on a chalkboard or chart paper. Discuss
the size difference of each snowball.
3. Provide blue paper, playdough, and white paint. Encourage the children
to roll their playdough into three different size balls.
4. Demonstrate how to dip the playdough balls into the white paint to
make a snowman print (large ball on bottom, medium ball in the middle,
and small ball at the top). The children should start from the bottom of
their paper and move upwards with their "snowballs."
5. Provide orange, brown, and black paint for children to add details, such
as a "carrot" nose, brown "twig" arms, and a black hat and eyes.
6. If desired, provide Q-tips for children to dip into white paint and make
dots to represent snow falling on the snowmen.
