Materials

Homemade playdough, any recipe (no added color)

Red paint

Glue

Scissors

White yarn

Construction paper, in brown, green, and beige

Instructions

1. Read the story Mole's Hill: A Woodland Tale to the class.
2. With the children, paint green hills on a piece of paper.
3. When the paint is dry, help the children cut out flowers from different colored
construction paper.
4. Using green paper, help them cut out stems and leaves (one set for each
flower).
5. Encourage the children to glue the stems, leaves, and flowers all over the hill.
6. Help the children cut out a brown oval or circle and glue it near the bottom
side of hill. This will be the mole hole.
7. Encourage the children to press animal stamps onto a stamp pad and stamp
them all over the paper above the hill.

Dramatic Play: Put tables together to make tunnels. Cover them with sheets,
leaving both ends open. Encourage the children to play in the tunnels and pretend
to be woodland animals.
