Materials

Watch It Grow, Watch It Change by Joan Elma Rahn (or similar book)

large seeds (such as squash or melon)

sturdy white paper towels

clear plastic zipperlock bags

potting soil

paper cups (or encourage recycling by planting in clean, used, individual serving yogurt cups)

plastic squeeze condiment bottle

Instructions

l On card stock, make eight lotto
boards, two for each season.
Write the names of the seasons
at the tops of each board.
l Make a grid on the boards with
between four and 12 squares.
l Put a season-appropriate picture
in each square, making
photocopies of those images.
Cut out the photocopied images.
l Laminate the lotto boards and
individual photocopied images.
What To Do
1. Talk with the children about the seasons, asking them to describe the
seasons and things that remind them of the seasons.
2. Show the children the boards and individual image cards.
3. Invite the children to take turns with the different boards, identifying
the seasons by name, and then searching through the individual image
cards for those that match the seasons.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children identify and differentiate between the seasons?
l Can the children match seasonal images to the correct seasons?
