Materials

Small pizza boxes

Poster board circles that fit in pizza box

Scissors

Materials for "toppings" such as buttons, ribbons, beads, and small pompoms

Glue

Instructions

What to do
1. Ask the local pizzeria to donate enough small pizza boxes so that each child has one.
2. Give each child a circle cut from poster board that will fit into the pizza box.
3. Invite the children to cut their circles into eight sections (slices).
4. Have each child glue bits of ribbon, beads, buttons, or other materials on their slices for "toppings."
5. After the glue dries, the children can piece their pizza puzzles together and place in their boxes.
These puzzles make a great math projects, helping young children to learn geometric shapes
and sizes.

Dramatic play: Using pretend money, have the children play pizza delivery. Help them count out
the exact amount to pay for their pizza orders.
Snack: Make mini-pizzas on bagels or English muffins.
